A Culinary Road Trip Through the Southeastern United States

Last November, we spent 11 days on a culinary road trip through the Southeastern United States. I’m breaking down each stop and outlining where we stayed, what we did, and most importantly, where we ate.


Day 1: Indianapolis, IN to Asheville, NC

About a seven-hour drive from our home in Indianapolis, our first stop was Asheville, North Carolina.

Activity: Walking Food Tour (we always schedule these for lunch!)

Dinner: Cucina 24



Day 2: Asheville, NC

Breakfast: Tupelo Honey

  • The homemade pickles were fantastic.

Activity: After our tour of the estate, we had tickets to see the Van Gogh exhibit at the Biltmore gallery.

Dinner: Vivian



Day 3: Asheville, NC to Savannah, GA

Lodging: 3 nights at Tryp by Wyndham

Activity: Explore Savannah and hotel’s neighborhood

Dinner: Noble Fare


Day 4: Savannah, GA



Day 5: Savannah, GA

Activity: Cemetery Tour

Lunch: The Deck Beachbar and Kitchen on Tybee Island



Day 6: Savannah, GA to Charleston, SC

Lodging: 2 nights at an Airbnb

Morning Activity: Visit the Charleston Museum

Activity: Charleston Food Tour (lunch)

  • By far the best meal of the trip and probably of my life. A true culinary experience!



Day 7: Charleston, SC

Lunch: 167 Raw

Activity: History Tour

Dinner: FIG

Day 8: Charleston, South Carolina to Wilmington, North Carolina

Morning Activity: Boone Hall Plantation

Activity: Explore River Walk

Dinner: Manna

Late Night Activity: Billiards at Blue Post


Day 9: Wilmington, North Carolina

Activity: Visit Wrightsville Beach

Dinner: Seabird


Day 10: Wilmington, North Carolina to Jamestown/Williamsburg, VA

Dinner: Precarious Beer Project Beer Hall


Day 11: Fly from Norfolk, VA to Indianapolis, IN
